Tech Professionals Study Finds No Gender Wage Gap
In its annual survey of 16,301 technology professionals, the job search firm Dice found “no salary gap exists between women and men in tech … as long as you are comparing people with equal experience, education, and job titles.”
The study did find a ‘motivational gender gap’, however. Men and women are motivated by different things and, thus, make different personal choices about compensation packages of salaries, benefits, and working conditions. See the graphic below for the company’s complete analysis of top motivators of men and women.
Dice’s president Bob Melk, in a letter to the media, indicated that, while generally men and women surveyed reported being satisfied with their compensation, cash just doesn’t mean as much to women as it does to men. Melk indicated that employers are offering women alternatives to high salaries, including flexible work hours and the ability to telecommute.
The survey was released on March 2, 2016.
