United States Senator Joni Ernst’s passion for our nation and its future makes her a natural choice as CBLPI’s Conservative Woman for July during the anniversary of our nation’s independence.

Elected in November 2014, she became the first woman from Iowa to serve in a federal office, as well as the first female combat veteran elected to the United States Senate.

Senator Ernst grew up on her family’s farm in Red Oak, Iowa, where her parents instilled in her the Iowa values of hard work, service and sacrifice. She attended Iowa State University and participated in the university’s Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program. Senator Ernst served in the military for over 20 years and continues to serve in the Iowa Army National Guard as a Lt. Colonel.

Sworn into office in January 2015, Senator Ernst focuses on issues of major importance to Iowans, including efforts to grow the economy, cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, eliminate harmful regulations, and ensure our military has the necessary resources to defend our nation and its veterans received quality care.

“Be involved,” urges Senator Ernst. “Find the areas you love, things you are passionate about, and become involved.”
