Emily Jashinsky on Leftist Media Bias

Culture Editor at the Federalist Emily Jashinsky Speaks at Patrick Henry College on the Bias of Liberal Media

November 14, 2023

“The media is the window through which regular people are able to access and understand the world of public affairs… and if that window is smudged or cracked, it’s a problem.”

Emily Jashinsky came to Patrick Henry College to speak on the state of journalism and the environment which cultivated the media we see today. Her lecture included information about previous media attitudes and societal patterns which eventually gave way to the accepted customs and attitudes we observe now. Jashinsky utilized her own professional experience to explain to students the drastic nature of journalism today and help them conceptualize how it might look in the future for young journalists.

Emily Jashinsky is originally from Wisconsin and serves as the culture editor at The Federalist and the director of the National Journalism Center. She previously covered politics as a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner and worked as the spokeswoman for Young America’s Foundation. In her experience in Journalism, Emily has been able to observe the state of journalism first hand: how unwelcome voices get silenced and called into struggle sessions while elite and homogenous voices are prioritized. With her insights students are properly prepared for the reality of the media industry with informed clear-sightedness.  Partnering with the Center for Conservative Women, the Young Women for America chapter at Patrick Henry College hosted Emily Jashinsky on October 24th at 6pm.
