For decades liberal politicians and abortion proponents have used the phrase “rare, safe and legal” to describe their hopes regarding the laws surrounding abortion. As they pushed for the legalization of abortion they continued to justify the laws by using this mantra. In a recent ad put out by Planned Parenthood of New York City, their mission is clear: to make money through the abortion industry. [Note: The ad, posted here, is entitled “F**k New York and Everyone in It.” Watch it only if you can tolerate hearing the f- bomb relentlessly.]
The ad calls for more sexual promiscuity, stating that Planned Parenthood believes you should be able to have sex with whomever you’d like. Of course, this type of promiscuity leads to an increase in the use of Planned Parenthood, through the increase in abortions and the use of birth control.
On Planned Parenthood’s annual report they claim year after year that abortions are only 3% of what they do. However, Planned Parenthood factors every service given to one customer into that number. For example, if a woman comes into a Planned Parenthood office and receives an ultrasound, a pre-abortive counseling session, an abortion, and she is given a condom on her way out the door Planned Parenthood would consider this four separate services, making the abortion only 25% of the services that woman received while in their office that day.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice research and policy institute committed to “advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights” show how Planned Parenthood currently accounts for 34% of the abortions that take place in the United States annually.
Planned Parenthood supporters like to discuss all the additional services that they offer in defense of them receiving government funding. Mammograms, cancer screenings, pregnancy tests, STD tests, adoption referrals, etc. are all cited by the left as reasons to continue funding Planned Parenthood.
Between Planned Parenthood’s 2004 Annual Report and they’re most recent Annual Report we can see the number of each service that they performed in the two years. Birth control, prenatal care, breast exams, pap tests and cancer screenings are all down by a large percentage. The number of abortions they’ve performed between these years has risen by 28% and their government funding has risen by 103%.
According to the FDA’s most up-to-date list of clinics in the United States that have a mammography license, there are over 8,000 clinics that are licensed to give mammograms. Not one of the clinics is a Planned Parenthood.
There are currently 665 operating Planned Parenthood’s in the United States, while there are currently 13,540 operating pregnancy resource centers. Meaning for every one Planned Parenthood in the U.S. there are 20.4 pregnancy resource centers.
These pregnancy resource centers offer all of the same women’s health care services as a Planned Parenthood (other than abortion), and many of them are mammogram certified, which Planned Parenthood is not. The majority of these centers operate on donations and are able to offer the majority of their services to women, free of charge.
According to Planned Parenthood’s own statistics, they perform one abortion every 97 seconds in the United States.
This is no surprise considering the way Planned Parenthood encourages a promiscuous lifestyle without consequences.
Of course, the natural consequence of sexual activity is pregnancy, and STI’s can also follow. Encouraging promiscuity among Americans is the easiest way for Planned Parenthood to increase their business.
